10th Grade Diplomacy Concepts:

Learning about the kinds of work diplomats do.  Working on public speaking skills through giving speeches, story-telling and debates.  Learning about different cultures and how culture affects our world view.  Students learn the basics of journalism and photo-journalism.  They learn how to determine if the information is newsworthy or fake news.

11th Grade Diplomacy Concepts:

Students in 11th grade learn how to construct an argument in writing and present a cause to take action on.  They also learn about international trade and globalization.  Students learn how to analyze an issue by identify the underlying political, economic, cultural and social issues.   They learn about the Declaration of Human Rights and how different rights can often come into conflict with one another.   Pupils also learn the rights of state sovereignty and the responsibility to protect citizens from rogue states.  Finally, students learn the basics of to write and pass laws in the United Nations.

Extension to the Course: Conflict Resolution

Students learn the basic reasons why individuals, groups and nations often come into conflict with each other.  Students will investigate the psychological reasons that often lead to conflict.   Students will learn steps to mediate conflict and propose ways to build trust between different groups.  

12th Grade Diplomacy Concepts:

Students learn different approaches to being a leader by exploring various leaders throughout history.  Students will create and implement a leadership project in their community.    Students will review and complete the Bagrut Exam in Diplomacy.

 

Conflict Resolution:

Students will simulate various historical or potential international conflicts and how to solve those conflicts through negotiations and diplomacy.   Students will conduct an intensive original research project into a real conflict that is in their local community and propose a multistep solution to solve the conflict.
